- Course objectives
- Excursions to Czech energy companies and internships at potential employers aim to enhance students' competitiveness and employability. For this purpose students will visit following companies: CEZ, CEPS, Jihomoravska plynarenska and the Museum of oil drilling and geology. Lectures by representatives of the company as well as interactive workshops/discussions carried out directly on the company´s workplace will be included, so students will have a unique opportunity to compare theoretical knowledge with practical examples. Excursions are also planned to premises related to company's activities, typicaly nuclear power plant or underground storage of natural gas. In agreement with a partner company, selected students will have an opportunity to complete a mid-term internship. Its character will depend on the possibilities of particular company as well as on students´ own ambitions.
- Syllabus
- Majority of excursions will take place in the seventh week. In this period there is a reading week in other courses, which focus on energy security. Excursions to specific company premises (nuclear power plant, underground storage of natural gas) will take place in accordance with particular company current possibilities. Specific terms will be introduced to students at the introductory meeting. On the CEZ company headquarters, students will familiarize themselves with following issues: electricity generation; comparision of basic energy resources, their advantages and disadvantages; renewable resources and their potential for electricity generation; electricity market. Of course, the EU level will be included as well as the issue of nuclear energy. Based on current possibilities there will be an excursion to the Dukovany nuclear power plant. Also the cooperation with CEPS company will allow the students to confront their theoretical knowledge with practical situations, in addition on the level of company with international significance. Students will gain valuable insight into the issue of electricity generation and transmission (real-time balancing of supply and demand within the system, power outages solutions ...) as well as national and international electricity transportation including its various aspects. Students will get to know how the Czech Republic is interconnected through cross-border power lines with all neighboring countries thus operating synchronously with interconnected transmission system across the whole of Continental Europe. Excursions to Prague will include a unique visit of the Prague Energy Exchange. Excursion to the Museum of Oil Drilling and Geology in Hodonin provides students profound information about selected aspects of drilling (origin of hydrocarbons resources and their distribution in the world, exploration and production, future forecasts and the importance of hydrocarbons in the future etc.). In subsequent interactive seminar students have an opportunity to deepen their knowledge. This introductory section will be followed by other excursions in the region according to current possibilities (South Moravian lignite basin etc.). The main aim of excursion to the Jihomoravska plynarenska company is to obtain practical knowledge and useful experience from gas manufacturing and subsequent practical orientation in the topic. According to current possibilities visit of an underground storage of natural gas will take place as well.
