Course objectives (in Czech)
This seminar examines (re)presentations of the norms and forms of contemporary urban life in contexts of structured and structuring inequality, division, and disrespect. We shall, to borrow a phrase from Loic Wacquant, ‘scrutinize the street’ from a variety of perspectives. Indeed, drawing on a number of works in urban ethnography, photography, music, autobiography and film, the seminar aims to explore how issues of identity, inequality, and respect are reflexively negotiated and articulated in complex urban environments.
