- Course objectives
- The students will (hopefully) become Facebook/Twitter/Instagram power users. We will focus especially on how to use the social media in the daily life of a journalist. Also, we will learn to approach the social media as a topic critically, regarding their economical and political significance.
- Syllabus
- Power user tips and tricks: how to make advanced searches, export data, embed content to websites etc.
- History of the most important social networks; their business models.
- Critical reflexion of the role of social networks in the contemporary society.
- Cyberbullying.
- Buzzwords that should be understood: web 2.0, long tail, crowdsourcing etc.

- Teaching methods
- Half lectures, half class discussion.
- Assessment methods
- Every student will have to: 1. Read 50-100 pages of required literature every week and send me an excerpt every Monday by 5 p.m. 2. Present a piece of news regarding social media to their colleagues for one time in the course of the semester. 3. Write a 5-page final paper, be it an essay or a popular article.
