- Course objectives
- This course examines intercultural contexts stemming from the growing diversity and interconnectedness of the world. The first part of the course is focused on an understanding of the mainstream Intercultural research tradition. The second part of the course covers recent theoretical evolutions in this field, reflecting the increased transnationalization of the world and the development of new media technologies. The third part of the course is focused on the politics of cultural identity in relation to media practices. By reading a variety of research articles assigned in the course and participating in class discussions, students learn to develop their own research projects focusing on intercultural communication and its relation to media.
Comprehend multiple theories of intercultural communication.
Understand our world as the main context of new intercultural communication research
Review and analyze a variety of research articles on intercultural communication.
Build professional experiences by conducting interviews with intercultural people

- Teaching methods
- The format of the course is a combination of brief lectures and controlled discussions of various assigned readings. All students are expected to read all articles assigned and to develop appropriate discussion questions. Each student is a discussion leader for an assigned week. Students submit a group research paper with 2-4 colleagues (topic of student’s choice in consultation with instructor; minimum 20 pages including references, figures, and tables).

- Response Papers (30 x 8 = 240) (Summarize Required Articles and Develop 3 discussion questions. Submit by noon the day before each class with the exception of Week 1, 7, 10, and 13 No Late Paper Accepted)
One Movie Critic (60)
One Interview Project (200): Work with 3-4 Colleagues, Conduct One-on-One Interviews with Intercultural people, Find theoretically meaningful characteristics.
One Discussion Leader (100)
Research Paper (400): Due- Midnight, Monday 8. June. 2015 (Late Paper – Subtract 5% for each day after the due date)
