- Course objectives
- The course objective is to:
- acquaint students with various fields of applied developmental psychology in a life-long perspective
- teach students to apply the knowledge of developmental psychology and to interpret various phenomena of normative development in their context
- increase students' sensitivity to the developmental-psychological aspects of mental processes and behavior in the lifelong perspective
- prepare students, in a partial way,for basics in psychodiagnostic process that requires a developmental-psychological point of view - Learning outcomes
- students should:
- be capable to apply developmental psychology perspective on critical analysis of trends in parenting, education etc.
- gain basic understanding to dynamics within families after childbirth or adoption
- understand that the effects and impacts of life events or therapeutic interventions on child's development might differ in relation to the child’s age
- understand the importance of developmentally appropriate interventions
- gain an insight into how core developmental theories and principles can be applied in real-life contexts
- be able to critically read psychology research papers and understand and apply their findings with respect to developmental psychology context
- be capable to identify the risk and protective factors and understand the mechanisms when facing with a child’s developmental history - Syllabus

- Teaching methods
- lectures are given by professionals in the field/on the topic with class discussions with a lecturer on a given topic
- Assessment methods
- oral examination consists of individual presentation and discussion
each student is supposed to prepare presentations on 5 different topics from applied developmental psychology
the presentation should be based on critical review of at least two research papers and metaanalysis related to the topic
the final grade is an evaluation of:
- the quality of student's presentation (40%)
- student's ability to discuss his/her topic with an examinator and other students (40%)
- the quality and relevance of student's involvement in discussion with other students following their presentations (20%) - Language of instruction
