- Course objectives
- 1. Present and share knowledge of approaches to writing more extensive texts (phd. dissertation, thematic monograph). How to finish with success your doctoral studies? To get acquainted with approaches to procrastination. 2. Obtain competencies in the field of: doctoral study and career. Context of Doctoral Studies in the Czech Republic. Applying at the end of PHD studies. Postdoc position and how to go to it. 3. Acquire competencies in the field: financial aspects of PHD. study. 4. Obtain the ability to create your own career plan and personal development plan. 5. Increase managerial and communication skills, including the skills needed to succeed in the selection process. 6. Transfer of information and knowledge about the functioning of science in the Czech Republic.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to:
- identify and summarize important approaches to writing large-scale texts and critical points in their finalization;
- identify and describe the current basic forms of access to the dissertation genre;
- Identify opportunities for applying in the field of environmental science both in the Czech Republic and abroad;
- Describe the factors that affect the chances of the selection process for scientific positions with a special focus on post-doc positions;
- to compile and analyze your career plan;
- apply managerial approaches to specific situations associated with the academic environment - Syllabus
- 1. How to finish (on time) a dissertation (What can be done structurally for a better concentration on a dissertation? How to schedule a doctorate? How to harmonize a doctorate with livelihood / employment? How to fight procrastination? 2. Doctoral study strategy from a career perspective (What is the context of doctoral studies in the Czech Republic, what are the chances of applying after the end of the PhD? How can it be increased? How to find a postdoc position? How to find a foreign PHD placement?) + How can doctoral life to finance (grants, scholarships) 3. How does the national system of science work (in CR, at KES FSS MU - IS and publications, RIV and the system of science evaluation) + how to choose a publishing strategy with regard to its specific focus (how to find the right journal, database magazines and the differences between them , what are the publishing practices, correct publication principles, predatory magazines) 4. What are the environmentally relevant sources of information (physical resources, e-resources, online resources available domestically and abroad free of charge) 5. How to create your career plan and how to control its fulfillment. 6. Success in the tender. 7. Managerial and other skills suitable for management positions.
