Course objectives
Study of psychological theories of adolescent development Discussion of basic topics of recent adolescent psychology: - specificities of early, middle, and late adolescence; - a transition from adolescence to young adulthood; - development of self and identity in adolescence; - development of relationships to parents - development of relationships with peers - risk behavior in adolescence - possibilities of individual and group interventions regarding adolescent problems

- to learn theories of adolescence - to understand of adolescent development - to practise social skills and techniques of intervention in adolescents
Syllabus
  • What is typical for adolescence. Definition of stage. Historical and cultural view on adolescence. Development changes, a comparison of generation of current adolescents and generation of their parents. Empirical research, an influence of social changes. Peer relationships, romantic partnerships, friends. Adolescence as a process of self-development. Self-concept, self-esteem, identity development. Balint group as a framework of reflection adolescents´ problems. Study and career development in adolescence. Social contract, civic and political participation. Prosocial behavior. Volunteering. Risk behavior and social support in adolescence. Prevention and intervention. Concept of emerging adulthood. Possibilities and limits of intervention in adolescents.
