- Course objectives
- The course is thematically focused on the application of sociological concepts in various housing contexts. The course will enable students to evaluate in particular: (a) the parameters of the housing situation in the Czech Republic against the background of a broader framework of European countries; (b) ways of perception the living environment with regard to the social differences of the actors; (c) housing preferences of the population; (d) specifics of housing in Czech and European housing estates; (e) the social and spatial consequences of living in suburbs; (f) the effects of residential segregation and gentrification on housing; (g) the conceptualization of the term ghetto and its current context in Western countries.
- Learning outcomes
- - apply sociological concepts in different housing contexts - evaluate the parameters of the housing situation in the Czech Republic against the background of the wider framework of European countries; - understand in particular: the ways of perceiving the residential environment with respect to the social differences of actors; the preferences of residents in housing and their social context; and the social and spatial consequences of housing in the suburbs.
