- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to introduce students to the genres of journalism, especially written journalism, both theoretically and practically. Students will gain knowledge about the key genres of opinion journalism (review, criticism, commentary, note, gloss) and more broadly about journalism in general, about the current form of genres in Czech journalism and will regularly create individual genres publishable in the media.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, students will:
. know the rules for writing opinion journalism and more broadly journalistic genres,
- gain an overview of the current form of Czech opinion journalism,
- will be able to create individual journalistic genres at a professional level, including critical reflection. - Syllabus
- Main topics:
- 1. Definition of basic concepts.
- 2. Definitions of the terms.
- 3. Written journalism in print media and online.
- 4. Contemporary Czech journalism.
- 5. Opinion genres.
- 6. Genres of art criticism and reviews.
- 7. Other journalistic genres with an emphasis on evaluation and opinion (interview, reportage, feature, story, feature, profile, portrait, medallion, obituary).

- Teaching methods
- Theoretical preparation (reading), practical exercises, group discussions, analysis and critical reflection of texts, home seminar papers. Creating a media product.
- Assessment methods
- During the semester, students prepare a predetermined number of journalistic and professional seminar papers according to the assignment.
Assessment:
Evaluation of papers is only within the boundaries of pass/fail; all three papers must be passed to receive credit; those not passed must be reworked for acceptance.
Seminar attendance:
Unexcused absence from one class as defined by the SZŘ MU is permitted.
Work for the missed class, if any, must be made up.
