Course objectives
The aim of the course is to learn about the ways of representing social reality in film language through discussion of contemporary audiovisual works (documentary and fiction), to learn about active spectatorship and dialogical ways of communicating the spectatorial experience, and to develop a register of audiovisual methods applicable to one's own work. The course also aims to introduce different methods of journalistic/AV work on social issues and to discuss current social issues based on film material.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion, learners will be able to:
- understand how film language represents social reality and the ways in which social issues can be dealt with in audiovisual production
- take an analytical approach to film narrative
- discuss their attitudes towards social issues and their representation in a structured and respectful way, while being able to distinguish between the level of film representation and social reality
Syllabus
  • The course is taught in the form of film screenings followed by guided discussions.
Teaching methods
Discussion, self-study.
Assessment methods
Attendance in class, active participation in discussions, posting your own reflections in the subject forum, and at least two responses.
