- Course objectives
- The main goal of the course is to present the sociological understanding of law as an essential methodological concept of law complementary to the normative approach. It introduces individual elements of the mechanism of legal regulation, the functions and roles of law, the issue of legal action, legal relations, social deviation, social control, legal consciousness, the effectiveness of law and other social contexts of law. It shows how the interaction of law and society affects the content of law and its action in society. It fulfills an important propaedeutic and methodological role in the study of law.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able: - to identify elements of the mechanism of legal regulation; - to test the relationship between law - legal consciousness - legal behavior; - analyze the effectiveness of the operation of the law on a given area of legislation; - identify the state of social deviation and analyze its manifestations; - analyze the functions and role of law in society;

- Definition of sociology of law. Main representatives and directions of sociology of law. Mechanism of legal regulation. Functions and roles of law in society. Law in the socio-cultural system. Legal consciousness, legal action and effectiveness of law. Social control, normality and deviation. Sociological and legal research.
