- Course objectives
- The course is open to all who are interested in expanding their basic knowledge in the field of legal lexis, the French legal system (and its comparison with the Czech one), working with simpler authentic texts (contractual documents, court decisions, articles from the media). The aim is to practise and improve linguistic competence.
- Learning outcomes
- On completion of the course, the student will be able to communicate in a legal environment and use French as a working language when interacting with francophone colleagues. The student will be able to analyse and interpret simple contractual documents, legal texts, court decisions, articles of the press. The student will be able to express himself/herself orally (discussion, negotiation, exchange of information).
- Syllabus
- The course will analyse authentic texts with a focus on mastering the basic competences : comprehension of written texts, listening, independent speaking.
- Topics : The French legal system (and its comparison with the Czech one). Sources of law. Laws. Jurisprudence. Treaties.

- Teaching methods
- Teaching will take the form of a seminar (90 minutes, once a week). Students will receive the teaching texts in advance via the interactive course syllabus. Teaching methods: analysis of professional texts, reading comprehension, listening comprehension, independent speaking and writing. Group work.
- Assessment methods
- The final evaluation will be a summary of the results of the 5 interim answer sheets. Structure of the answer sheets: adding technical terms and sentences to the texts, listening comprehension (multiple choice questions, free response questions). The required pass mark is 60% (the test is marked out of 100 points, a minimum of 60 points must be achieved).
