- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students will be able to translate Latin sentences and simple legal Latin texts. They will acquire legal phrases. Students will understand internationalisms originated from Latin and they will be able to compare their contemporary meanings with the originals.
- Syllabus
- 1. Revision of latin declinations I.-III. Revision of prepositions and prefixes. Latin legal phrases. 2. Revision of adjectives of declination III. Adjective suffixes. Revision of verbs I. – IV. Conjugation. Latin legal phrases. 3. Revision of nouns - declination IV. and V. Latin substantive suffixes. Revision of personal and possessive pronouns. 4. Verb esse – „prézens“ and „imperfectum“. „Imperfectum“ of regular verbs I. – IV. Conjugation. Latin prefixes – assimilation. 5. Demonstrative pronouns. Latin abreviations I. Word order. Translation of a text. 6. Interrogative, relative and indefinite pronouns. Future tenses of verbs I. – IV conjuncts and verbs esse and fieri. 7. Cardinal and ordinal numerals. Irregular vebs velle, nolle, malle. Translation. 8. Adverb formation and gradation. Adjective gradation. Case syntax. Latin legal definitions. 9. “Participium prezens“ active in a construction of “ablative absolute“. Irregular verbs ferre, ire. Translation. 10. Indicative sequence. Classification of latin subordinate clauses. Relative subordinate sentences. Translation. 11. Introduction to sequence in latin. Conjunct „prézens“ and „imperfectum“. Adverbial subordinate sentences. 12. „Gerundivum“ and „gerund“. Passive voice. Gerundive construction.
