Teaching methods
Before each seminar, there will be texts for home preparation (selected parts of sources and literature, foreign language texts will be in Czech translation) in order to discuss details in the seminars. There will be a lecture of the teacher along with moderated discussion of students. During the first seminar, there will be introduced basic problems connected with research in the area of Roman law or with other historical/foreign texts (exegesis, textual criticism, editions of sources and literature, legal nad non-legal sources, electronic databases). Further lectures will be focused on selected issues in order to demonstrate application of scientific methods. thus, students will get acquainted with work with both legal and non-legal ancient sources, contemporary legislation and both Czech and foreing court decisions, provided there is an influence of Roman law or at least significant similar features of Roman law and cointemporary law.
Assessment methods
Students will elaborate and submit short text (approximately 5-15 pages) where they demonstrate their ability to apply the knowledge gained in the seminar in their own scientific work (preferably part of their prepared diploma thesis, eventually scientific article or classical seminar paper). Students will receive feedback during the last seminar.
