Course objectives
The course includes comprehensive information on equal treatment and prohibition of discrimination in the Czech national law and EU law from both practical and theoretical point of view. It is realised in cooperation with the Office of the Public Defender of Rights. The particular lessons are taught by employees of this Office or by its external experts. After acquitting of essential theoretical information, practice of knowledge in the form of solution of model situations is the significant part of the programme. Hereinafter, the programme includes solution of particular cases in which the discrimination is argued by the claimants under supervision of lawyers from Department of Equal Treatment of the Office of the Public Defender of Rights. At the end of the course, students will be able to apply general theoretical basis including relevant case-law in practice.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
- describe the basic concepts of anti-discrimination law;
- identify key legal issues in cases where discrimination is alleged;
- apply the concepts learned to specific examples and solve them;
- respond to citizens' complaints to the Office of the Ombudsman;
- lead the discussion on discrimination regulation at national and European level, orientate oneself in the current case law and formulate one's opinion on possible changes in this regulation and case law.

Teaching methods
Interactive teaching methods with using of principles of team work and analytic techniques. Training of acquired knowledge by presenting of solutions of model situations and practical examples.
Assessment methods
Solution of model situations, during colloquium presentation of solution of provided problem in individual performance by usage of acquired knowledge.
