Course objectives
This course is established as an instrument of preparing students for the beginning of the scientific work. The main objectives of thos course are the following: the understanding of the basic methods of scientific work; the acquiring of subsidiary scienficic works; the orientation in the scienticif literature; the searching for the sources to the thesis. The specific content and objectives of the course and the resulting requirements for its completion are always based on the individual study plan and its semester content. Typically, the course is usually aimed at defining the research focus of the dissertation, followed by an initial search of relevant sources, a study of the current state of knowledge in the field, as well as the gradual refinement of the dissertation task within the research focus and the definition of specific problem areas and questions that will be addressed in the dissertation. The aim is to get closer to the definition of the subject and aim of the thesis (clarification of what the dissertation will be about and what it will be about).
Learning outcomes
The specific outcomes are always based on the individual study plan and its semester content. They are determined according to the principles set by the departmental board of the relevant programme. Unless otherwise specified in this procedure, the outcomes usually include: - definition of the "research focus" of the dissertation - initial research of relevant sources - progress in the study of the current state of knowledge in the field - familiarisation with approaches to the choice of an appropriate subject and the objectives of the dissertation
Syllabus
  • The curriculum is prepared individually in agreement with the supervisor as part of the semester-long individual study plan. It includes the definition of the research focus of the dissertation, and in relation to this, it usually includes an initial search of relevant sources, a study of the current state of knowledge in the field, consultations leading to the specification of the dissertation task within the chosen topic and the definition of specific problem areas and questions that will be addressed in the dissertation, consultations aimed at defining the subject and objectives of the dissertation (clarification of what the dissertation will be about and for what purpose).
