Course objectives
Constitutional law is a key branch of law that determines the entire legal order of states and it can be considered as a frame for the rest branches of law. The importance of constitutional law is a reason why there is also an importance of constitutional development. Constitutional law is characterized by its low dynamics. Then, institutes of constitutional law have a long tradition and history. However, the course does not discuss in detail the current constitutional system of the Czech Republic.
• Knowledge of the development of constitutionalism in the Czechia helps to gain a broader perspective and a more thorough knowledge of the legal system. Many institutes of the recent Czech constitutional order have their historical reasons which are mentioned in the course. The course acquaints students with the constitutional development of our territory from the beginnings of the modern state. Then, with the concept of a modern state and its concrete manifestations in our constitutional history. • The course acquaints students with the constitutional development in our territory from the beginnings of the modern state and its manifestations in our constitutional history, with fundamental documents of the constitutional character of the pre-constitutional era, constitutions from the monarchy and Czechoslovakia, and the development up to 1992 and with the development of human rights protection in our territory. Students will gain a basic overview of historical development.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
• - characterize the individual stages of the development of constitutionalism of Czech lands from the second half of the nineteenth century to the present;
• - identify the main similarities and distinctions between the constitutions effective in the territory of the current Czech Republic;
• - identify and summarize important features of constitutional development;
• - with knowledge of the constitutional development of the Czech state from the earliest times, thoroughly evaluate later legal regulations, including recent law;
• - compare and identify differences in the constitutional arrangement of a democratic and totalitarian system;
• - use in-depth knowledge of the Czech and Czechoslovak legal history;
• - understand the basics of human rights protection.

Teaching methods
A course is the delivery of a series of lessons on a web browser or mobile device, which can be accessed anytime and anyplace. It is designed as an online environment for convenient learning asynchronously with the exception of two monothematic synchronous meetings (via MS Teams) on the matter of the Czech constitutional development.
Assessment methods
Course completion requirements: Viewing all lectures; passing the final tests after individual blocks; attending at least one monothematic meeting; passing the final test. The conditions for the colloquium's passing are expounded in the interactive syllabus.
