- Course objectives
- The main goal of the course is to give students an idea about a field of law, that is generally neglected in standard studies, but offers broad application, not only for financial institutions, but also for attorneys and judiciary. The basis of the structure of the course will be a common administrative work of a company lawyer in private insurance company. The lessons will focus on practicality and interdisciplinarity, which will be evident in team composition of lecturers: apart from members of the academic staff, it will contain lawyers practicing the respective field. The course will deal with the topic of insurance law, which is, with respects to traditional division of legal branches, regulated in civil law, commercial law, and partially in administrative law. These will be the main topics: insurance contracts, different categories of insurance, arrangement of an insurance, supervision in insurance industry and specifics of the insurance in civil procedure. After successfully completing the course, the students should know law that is relevant for the work of company lawyers in an insurance companies, and be able to solve basic legal issues in that area. Selected successful students may be offered an internship in some insurance companies.
- Learning outcomes
- To be able to understand and explain main concepts, terms, principles and basic structure of insurance law. Student will be able to navigate through laws that regulate work of a lawyer in an insurance company. They should also be able to solve basic legal issues regarding insurance law.
- Syllabus
- 1) Basic issues of insurance law, insurance contract, insurance of property and liability.
- 2) Personal insurance, consumer protection and personal data protection.
- 3) Property damage liability coverage in car insurance, liquidation of insurance events and procedural aspects of insurance legal claims, insurance fraud.
- 4) Rules of insurance distribution, supervision in insurance industry, corporate aspects of insurance company management.

- Teaching methods
- Interactive teaching to communicate the information needed to solve practical examples. The main part of the course will be practical exercises, where practical and model cases dealing with legal issues in the field of insurance will be solved in the form of a discussion. Students prepare the solution of examples before the lesson. Teaching will take place in 4 three-hour blocks. The theoretical and practical part will always take place within the block. Teaching is supplemented by other forms of self-study - textbooks, syllabi and other electronic study materials (e-learning).
- Assessment methods
- The course will be completed by successfully attending a colloquium, which consists of discussion about selected issues of insurance law.
