Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to determine the areas of the labour law governed by the EU law and define the EU requirements on the national law relating to selected issues of the labour law. They should be able to interpret the purpose and objectives of the legal regulation of stated problem according to the case-law of the European Court of Justice. Particular attention will be paid to the meaning of basic notions used by the EU law concerning the labour law and their interpretation in the case-law of the European Court of Justice. Students should also be able to judge whether the Czech national law governing selected issue from the area of the labour law fulfils the EU law requirements.
Syllabus
  • Free moment of persons, prohibition of discrimination based on nationality, equal treatment in employment and occupation, health and safety at work, working time and rest periods, protection of motherhood and parenthood, protection of young people at work, part-time work, fixed-term employment relationship, collective redundancies, protection of employees in the case of insolvency of their employer, transference of undertaking, information and consultations with workers.

Teaching methods
Analysis of selected decisions of the European Court of Justice concerning stated issue, discussion on impact of the decision on the EU law and Czech national law.
Assessment methods
Elaboration and presentation of semester paper concerning selected labour law issue governed by the EU law. It shall include an interpretation of the purpose and objectives of the legal regulation and/or basic definitions in the case-law of the European Court of Justice (8-12 pages).
