- Course objectives
- The main objective of the course is to acquire knowledge of professional French. The student is required to have read French professional literature from the respective area of law in the extent of 200 pages at least. The topic is related to the particular specialization of the student. The student should prove that he/she is able to read fluently and understand a text, to understand a professional talk and to speak about issues relating to the given area of law.
- Syllabus
- Specialized topic according to the field of doctoral studies. The course focuses on the student’s professional specialization, with an emphasis on the topic of the dissertation, the problems of the discipline and the student’s professional fulfilment. 1. Reading professional texts in French related to the topic of the dissertation; in the extent of about 200 pages. 2. Presentation of the topic of the dissertation. 3. Discussions on the progress of the dissertation, the search of available literature, the outcomes and on the readings.

- Teaching methods
- Independent study of specialized literature connected with the theme of doctoral thesis. Tutorials. Individual preparation of the student. Consultations with the examiner before the examination. Analysis and interpretation of documents. Discussions, information exchanges and argumentation.
- Assessment methods
- The exam has an oral form. The student reads a text from the professional literature he has studied. Comprehension is verified by the students translating and re-telling the content in French and by the examiner´s questions. The speaking skill is verified by the student´s explanation in French of issues related to his/her scholarly discipline, dissertation and professional prospects. During examination, the doctoral student shall demonstrate the competence to read a text fluently and with comprehension, to follow a professional discussion with comprehension, to discuss issues concerning the given discipline, to analyze, to interpret and to argue. The examinee’s competence to speak is tested by means of a presentation in French focused on the problems of the given discipline, the examinee’s professional fulfilment and their prospects for the future.
