The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to gain a deeper understanding of the enforcement mechanisms of the supranational law of the European Union and the role of its judiciary.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the PhD student will:
- better understand how to enforce supranational law and policies of the European Union,
- be able to explain the particularities of the European Union's supranational justice system,
- take account of the findings in the preparation of the dissertation.
Syllabus
  • Syllabus:
  • (1) instruments of enforcement of national law,
  • (2) the peculiarities of international law enforcement,
  • (3) the decentralisation of the European Union,
  • (4) the supervision of the European Union,
  • (5) financial instruments,
  • (6) enforcement of European Union law "from above",
  • (7) the role of Member States, their parliaments, authorities and courts,
  • (8) EU administration and justice,
  • (9) the specific features of the preliminary ruling procedure,
  • (10) EU constitutional and administrative justice,
  • (11) EU internal civil and labour justice,
  • (12) political and legal instruments (Article 7 TEU).
