- Course objectives
- The course's main objective is to deepen practical skills and orientation in using various legal information systems.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing this course, student is expected to be able to:
- understand basic functions of legal information systems and describe any legal information systems using these functions;
- find publicly available legal information;
- find acts other legal documents using ASPI, Codexis and Beck-online;
- work with EUR-Lex, Curia and HUDOC databases;
- evaluate credibility and validity of retrieved legal information and properly cite retrieved documents;
- conduct legal research of legal issue. - Syllabus
- Lectures:
- 1. Legal informatics, legal information retrieval. Concepts and terms.
- 2. ASPI.
- 3. Beck-online.
- 4. Codexis.
- 5. Other legal information systems and databases (NALUS, Supreme Court database, Supreme Administrative Court database, HUDOC, EUR-Lex and Curia).
- 6. Source/knowledge management. Research strategies. Legal research.

- Lectures supported by e-learning materials (via interactive syllabus). Online tests (ROPOTs) for self-study evaluation. ROPOT feedback. Exam focusing on theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

- To successfully complete this course, students are required to fulfil all the requirements set in detail in the interactive syllabus (online tests, exam).
