Course objectives
The aim is to acquaint students with a special part of criminology, i.e. with individual types of crime and with crime committed by individual groups of offenders. The individual types will be discussed in terms of statistics, latency, historical development, current state, characteristics of offenders, causes of this crime in the Czech Republic, in terms of prevention of all kinds. Special attention will be paid to familiarizing students with the basics of methodology and methods of criminological research.
Learning outcomes
gaining orientation and awareness of students regarding individual groups of crime according to the above mentioned aspects, gaining a general overview of the state of criminological issues in our country and the possibilities of crime reduction.
Syllabus
  • basics of criminological research methodology, introduction to individual criminological methods and their application in practice. Criminal activity of recidivists, juveniles, women, foreigners, individual ethnicities. Transport crime, alcohol and non-alcohol addiction, economic and property crime, computer and internet crime, terrorism and extremism, violent and sexual crime, corruption, organised crime.

Teaching methods
Lectures, discussions at individual meetings, excursions or meetings with the staff of the Institute for Criminology and Social Prevention in Prague.
