Course objectives
The aim of the subject is the introduction into the interdisciplinary problem of legal protection against domestic violence in the light of the World and European human rights dimensions. The practical seminars are interactive. Regarding the methods, the students will solve mainly model cases and case studies. Cooperation with the professionals is expected - mainly the presentation of real cases. The students will have to study at home (law, literature, cases, foreign sources) and prepare themselves for interactive lessons and for the final paper. They will have to create both the court applications and reasoned decisions. The students will be able to work with information and create a reasonable solution. The students will be prepared for practical life even though the law changes. They will be ready for interpretation and application of both substantive and procedural rules. They will be able to create, present, and defend the idea of "better law against domestic violence".

Teaching methods
The course is based mainly on lectures and self-study. The students will learn the basics of the subject and its institutions. The PowerPoint presentations are available on the information system of the Masaryk University. Practical seminars are more interactive. They are based on syllabuses: part one is more theoretical (topics for class discussion) and part two is more practical (solving the model cases). One time a term the students discuss in class the real case based on the petition, courts recording, decision, opinion of an expert witness, etc.). All the materials are available on the information system of Masaryk University. It all leads to the development of active skills of students, good written and oral self-presentation of students, class discussion, drills. Students will understand better the problems and remember the key institutions and use them in practical life. Special attention is paid to simulated court proceedings with the participation of judges, or other professionals.
Assessment methods
The course is based on lectures and practical seminars (workshops), which are obligatory. For obtaining the credits the students have to actively participate in presentations and class discussions on practical cases, model cases, and case studies based on decisions of the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights, including the dissent opinions. The students have to study at home (individual study of law, cases, literature, and PowerPoint presentations) besides the attendance at lectures. Students have to present their written creative preparation during the workshops. They have to defend the results of final papers (projects). The teacher gives value to each part of students' activities: home-works, presentations, model cases, and case studies. The student has to solve the problems and argue during the colloquiums, or to participate within the model court proceedings.
