- Course objectives
- Part of the subject is practical teaching in the patient's bed. Students will be acquainted with practical examination of the nutritional status of a particular patient, assessing the severity of its nutritional disorder and deciding on the appropriate way of nutritional support. The student monitors the patient during nutritional support, including those with artificial nutrition, especially when administered via an enteral probe. These sick students learn to monitor the tolerance of enteral nutrition, its effect, adverse effects and complications. The curriculum includes the economic and ethical aspects of nutritional support, understanding of the results of clinical research, and an outline of possible advances in the near future.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to identify the nutritional problem after graduation, to apply various ways of dietary intervention, their monitoring and evaluation. He will also be able to understand the results of clinical research.
- Syllabus
- 1) Medical history. Systematic nutrition history in practice. 2) Examination of nutritional state in practice. 3) Anthropometric measurements of patients, interpretation of results . 4) Interpretation of laboratory nutrition values, nutrition serum proteins. 5) Global evaluation of nutritional state. 6) Determination of demands for energy and proteins in a particular patient. 7) Calculation of energy balance and nitrogen balance in a particular patient. 8) Analysis of causes of malnutrition in a particular patient and proposal of the respective type of nutritional support. 9) Insertion of a thin nasogastric probe for nutrition, checking correct position of probe.
