Course objectives
The aim of the course is to explain the basic relationships of general chemistry and to acquaint students with the basic structures and properties of an-/organic compounds important in medicine, nutrition and toxicology.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
  • understand the basics of general, inorganic and organic chemistry in the scope necessary for further study of biochemistry.
  • apply general physical-chemical laws to processes in living organisms.
  • describe the properties of the major biogenic elements and compounds of importance in medicine, nutrition, and toxicology.
  • describe and discuss the properties and reactions of organic and bioorganic compounds important for understanding biochemical processes.
