Course objectives
The graduate will work in a healthcare sector that is heavily regulated and subjected to rigorous supervision by both the public and the supervisors. The aim of the course is to provide students with basic information about the institutional framework of health care, legal regulations affecting the health care law and, last but not least, specialized legislation dealing with management of human genome, human tissues, embryos and artificial fertilization.
Learning outcomes
Student will know after completing the subject: - the legal framework for the exercise of his profession - an institutional framework for health care provision - the legal regime for handling human tissues, cells - legal regime for manipulation of the human genome

  • 1. Introductory lecture, basic terms, test conditions, sources, orientation in the legal system 2. Conditions for the operation of health care in the Czech Republic, duties and rights, IB providers; Conditions for doing business in general 3. Introduction to private law and protection of personality 4. Sources of health law, state administration and self-government in health care 5. Responsibility in healthcare 6. Labor law, employee rights, Specifics of personnel problems in health care, OSH 7. Rights of the Patient, Legal Specifics of Children Patients 8. The Human Genome and the Legal Framework for Handling It 9. The Legal Regime of Artificial Fertilization 10. Drugs and medicines in the Czech Republic - Distribution, Legislation, Economic Issues 11. Health Financing in the Czech Republic and the EU, Financial Structure of the Business and public service provider of health services 12. Specific health services, economic and legal issues 13. Application of acquired knowledge to the operation of a medical laboratory, (recurrent lecture)

Teaching methods
Since the law is not a profiling subject of this study program, the course does not include a seminar lesson on which students should prepare in advance. The cycle of lectures and self-study is counted.
Assessment methods
The knowledge of course students will be verified by a written test at the end of the course.
