Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquire the necessary, comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the diagnosis and treatment of human fertility disorders. It provides graduates with an adequate overview of reproductive health, family planning, assisted reproduction methods, and maternal care during pregnancy.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course "Fundamentals of Reproductive Medicine," the student will: - acquire sufficient knowledge of the causes and pathogenesis of fertility disorders in both women and men, - master standard diagnostic and treatment procedures, - gain adequate knowledge of family planning, pregnancy monitoring, and the possibilities of prenatal genetic diagnostics.
Syllabus
  • • Epidemiology of Fertility Disorders • Causes of Fertility Disorders • Physiology of Human Reproduction (gametogenesis, ovarian cycle, neurohormonal regulation of the cycle) • Examination of Fertility Disorders (ovulation assessment, ovarian reserve, semen analysis, tubal patency assessment, endometrial evaluation, genetic testing) • Algorithm for Determining Treatment Approaches • Intrauterine Insemination • Assisted Reproduction – ovarian stimulation, follicular fluid aspiration, sperm selection, fertilization, embryo culture, embryo transfer, cryopreservation of embryos and gametes, risks of assisted reproduction, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome • Risks of Multiple Pregnancy • Principles of Prenatal Care, Prenatal Non-Invasive and Invasive Diagnostics • Pregnancy Complications – miscarriages, preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, gestational diabetes • Oncological Issues – protecting reproduction from gonadotoxic treatment • Psychological Aspects of Fertility Disorders • Gamete Donation, Surrogacy • Legislation in Fertility Treatment

Teaching methods
A one-semester series of one-hour lectures, following the syllabus, presenting the theoretical foundations and clinical practice, concluding with an exam worth 3 credits.
Assessment methods
Ongoing discussions during internships, student presentations during seminars. Final exam focused on verifying theoretical knowledge and clinical practice in the diagnosis and treatment of fertility disorders using assisted reproduction methods.
