Course objectives (in Czech)
This two-week block is designed to provide students with an understanding of the key principles of gastroenterology and hematology. The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration, clinical decision making and the application of modern diagnostic and therapeutic techniques.

Course Objectives
- To acquire the ability to rapidly and accurately diagnose the most common and rare gastroenterological and hematological conditions.
- To learn how to implement the latest therapeutic modalities including personalized medicine.
- To develop critical thinking in decision making in  complex clinical situations.
- To enhance the ability to interpret the results of modern diagnostic methods (endoscopy, imaging techniques, laboratory diagnostics).

Main topics of teaching
Gastroenterology:
- Diagnosis and therapy of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
- Endoscopic techniques - role in diagnosis and intervention.
- Metabolic and nutritional care of patients.
- Acute gastrointestinal bleeding - strategies and treatment.
- Liver disease, including cirrhosis and liver transplantation.

Haematology:
- Coagulation disorders and their management.
- Diagnosis and treatment of anaemia and thrombocytopenia.
- Hematologic malignancies - from clinical picture to modern therapy.
- The role of transplantation in the treatment of hematologic diseases.
- Transfusion medicine.
- Supportive care in hematologic oncology.
Learning outcomes (in Czech)
Upon successful completion of this two-week block, the student will be able to:

Knowledge
- Understand the pathophysiology and clinical presentation of major gastroenterological and hematological diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, anemias, hematological malignancies, and coagulation disorders.
- Describe the principles of modern diagnostic methods, including laboratory tests, imaging techniques, and endoscopic examinations.
- Explain the indications, contraindications, and complications of the latest therapeutic modalities, including biologic therapy, liver transplantation, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
Skills

- Independently perform a basic clinical examination of patients with gastroenterologic and hematologic difficulties, including proper history taking and targeted physical examination.
- Interpret the results of diagnostic tests (e.g., endoscopy, imaging, laboratory markers) and formulate a differential diagnosis based on them.
- Propose optimal diagnostic and therapeutic management of common and acute conditions (e.g., GIT bleeding, acute liver failure, anemia, thrombocytopenie, leukopenia, leukocytosis, bleeding or thrombosis).

Teaching methods
Lessons are taking place in blocks of 14 days. Attendance at the tuition is obligatory. The students work in groups of 5-6 members at the patient s bed step by step in all specialized department of the clinic. Expert seminars are the part of education.
