Course objectives
The aim of the tuition is working knowledge of the English language on the B2 level of the "Common European Framework of Reference" (CEFR)(Independent User) checked by an examination.
Syllabus
  • MEDICAL ENGLISH. Syllabus.
  • 1st week: Registration for lessons.
  • 2nd week: UNIT 1: The Human Body. Grammar: Definite Article, Indefinite Article, Absence of Articles; Plural, much - many, little - few. Conversation: Theme: At the Doctor's. Listening: Medical Examination.
  • 3rd week: UNIT 2: Musculoskeletal System I. Grammar: The Construction "there is/are", Word Order of the English Sentence. Conversation: Theme: Injuries. Listening: Scoliosis.
  • 4th week: UNIT 2: Musculoskeletal System II. Grammar: Passive Voice I. Listening: Injuries.
  • 5th week: UNIT 3: Cardiovascular System I. Grammar: Passive Voice II. Listening: Internal Medicine - Heart.
  • 6th week: UNIT 3: Cardiovascular System II.Grammar: Modal Verbs, their Periphrastic Forms. Conversation: Theme: In Hospital.
  • 7th week: UNIT 4: Haematic and Lymphatic System I. Grammar: Adverbial Clauses of Purpose; Transgressives. Listening: Feeling Ill.
  • 8th week: MID-TERM REVISION TEST
  • 9th week: UNIT 4: Haematic and Lymphatic System II.Grammar: Basic Verbal Tenses (Present, Past, Future). Conversation: Theme: Feeling Ill. Listening: Blood.
  • 10th week: UNIT 5: Gastrointestinal System (Mouth, Pharynx, Esophagus, Stomach, Intestines). Grammar: Conditional Sentences. Conversation: Theme: Endoscopy. Listening: Body Weight and Diet.
  • 11th week: UNIT 5: Gastrointestinal System (Accessory Organs of Digestion). Grammar: Comparison of Adjectives and Adverbs. Telling the Time in English. Conversation: Theme: Types of Medication. Listening: Pills and Tablets.
  • 12th week: UNIT 6: Respiratory System. Grammar: Personal, Possessive, Interrogative, Demonstrative and Replacive, and Indefinite Pronouns. Conversation: Theme: Symptoms and Signs. Listening: Dyspnea.
  • 13th week: UNIT 11: Organs of Senses (Taste, Smell, Sight). Grammar: Relative, Reflexive and Emphasising Pronouns.
  • 14th week: REVISION.
  • 15th week: Credit Test, Credit Acknowledgement.

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Výuka probíhá formou cvičení. Přítomnost ve cvičeních se bezpodmínečně vyžaduje, tolerují se maximálně dvě řádně omluvené absence; nejlépe je neúčast nahradit v nejbližším vhodném termínu. Výuka je ukončena zápočtem (z) udělovaným na základě docházky a úspěšného absolvování zápočtového testu z probrané učební látky.

Information on completion of the course: Studenti se státní jazykovou zkouškou, příp. jejím ekvivalentem (TOEFL, FCE apod.) mohou vykonat zkoušku kdykoliv během semestru.
