Course objectives
Anatomy of the eye: cell structure, histology of the ocular tissues, anatomical parameters of the eye, fibrous tunic, vascular tunic, internal tunic of the eyeball, compartments of the eyeball, visual pathway, visual cortical centers, blood supply to the eye, innervation of the eye, supporting and protecting parts of the eye. Embryology of the eye: stages of human eye development, stages of different ocular tissues and accessory organs of the eye development, congenital anomalies of the eye, hereditary ocular disorders.
Syllabus
  • Introduction to ocular anatomy, basic histological terminology, anatomy of the ocular adnexa, layers of the eyeball, anatomy of compartments of the eyeball, optic nerve, visual pathway, visual cortical centre anatomy, general overview of the brain anatomy, motor, sensitive and sensory innervation of the eye, blood supply to the eye. Physiology of vision – light perception, eyes optical aberrations, physiological contrast, visual acuity, accommodation, convergence, adaptation, visual field, color vision.
