- Course objectives
- Instruction of the course spectacle optics (brýlová optika) is based on the knowledge of fundamental laws of geometrical optics which is applied to the eye as a multielement optical system possibly affected by various refraction errors (myopia, hypermetropia, presbyopia, astigmatism, anisometropia, aniseikonia, aphakia). Various types of corrective spectacle lenses are introduced according to the specific refraction errors including design of their technical parameters.
At the end of the course, student should be able to:
understand the optical performance of the eye;
describe the optical aberrations of the eye;
design suitable corrective optical elements. - Syllabus
- 1. Accomodation. Measurement of accomodation, Duane graph, optical diagram of the accomodation process - examples.
- 2. Analysis of the accomodation process. Correction of myopia and hypermetropia for distance vision - examples.
- 3. Analysis of the accomodation process. Correction of myopia and hypermetropia for near vision - examples.
- 4. Spectacle lenses. Bi, plan, periscopic lenses, menisci - examples.
- 5. Spherical best-form spectacle lenses. The Petzval surface, The Petzval-Coddington condition, tangential and sagittal bundle of rays.
- 6. Astigmatism of a thin lens. The Tscherning ellipse, the main points of the method of the calculation of spherical best-form lenses.
- 7. Realization possibilities of spherical best-form spectacle lenses.
- 8. Aspheric spectacle lenses. Correction of aberration by an aspheric surface.
- 9. Bifocal spectacle lenses. Conditions for the image-jump removal on the interface of the lens portions.
- 10. Cut bifocal spectacle lenses. Calculation of the basic parameters, prismatic effect.
- 11. Trifocal spectacle lenses. The main working point, accomodation intervals.
- 12. Sealed bifocal spectacle lenses. The proposal of the calculation of the radii of curvature, check of apical refraction by a tabelar calculation of paraxial ray.
- 13. Multifocal spectacle lenses. Design, width of the central band, hard and soft type of the lens. Lenticular spectacle lenses. Prismatic glasses.
- 14. Eye astigmatism. Etiology of astigmatism, classification of astigmatism, correction of eye astigmatism.
- 15. Cylindrical and toric spectacle lenses. Rules for the recalculation of astigmatic combinations - examples.
