Course objectives
Subject Theory of refraction provides the students with the knowledge needed for perfect orientation in problems of refractive errors of eye and all related surroundings. It is connected with subjects geometrical optics, instrumental optics and spectatle optics. Students practise their knowledge in the examination room and optic laboratory of the faculty and at the departement of eye in hospitals. The aim is throughout knowledge of refractive errors and all the connected factors including the examination of refractive errors and their correction.
Syllabus
  • Introduction to the subject Theory of refraction. Eye problems caused by refractive errors. - Symptoms of small and large refractive errors - Eye problems. Additional problems. Examination and therapy of refractive errors - Eye refraction. - Refractive system of the eye. Corneal refraction. Lens refraction. - Reduced eye- Physiologic optical errors: diffraction of the light, chromatic aberration, decentration, peripheric aberration, diffraction rings, stenopeic holes. Pathologic refractive errors, kinds of ametropia, characteristics and occurrence of refractive errors. - Anomalies of refraction - Hypermetropia: etiology, optic conditions, accomodation in hypermetropia, normal age changes, clinical symptoms, prognosis and prophylaxis, therapy - Astigmatism: etiology, kinds of astigmatism, regular astigmatism – symptoms and therapy, irregular astigmatism – kinds, symptoms, therapy
