- Course objectives
- The course extends and continues the theoretical knowledge of the course - Nursing in Geriatrics I. The course provides knowledge of gerontology – science of aging and old age, problems of old people and life in old age, furthermore it provides knowledge of geriatrics, separate medical science associated with health and functional state of old people and knowledge of nursing.
Students will improve knowledge about specialities of the most frequent pathological conditions in old age and specifics of nursing care of geriatric patients. Furthermore students will improve knowledge about old peoples needs and about nursing problems in old age. The course will teach students to apply this knowledge with nursing processes. It also will teach students to apply acquired knowledge to solve particular problems of nursing care in model situations.
Course main objectives:
to improve knowledge about specialities of digestive system diseases in old age and about specialities of geriatric nursing care;
to improve knowledge about specialities of urogenital system diseases in old age and about specialities of geriatric nursing care;
to improve knowledge about specialities of skeletal and muscular system diseases in old age and about specialities of geriatric nursing care;
to improve knowledge about specialities of nervous system diseases (cerebral ictus) in old age and about specialities of geriatric nursing care;
to improve knowledge about specialities of nervous systém diseases (Parkinsons disease, Alzheimers disease) in old age and about specialities of geriatric nursing care;
to improve knowledge about specialities of metabolic diseases (Diabetes mellitus) in old age and about specialities of geriatric nursing care;
to improve knowledge about specialities of metabolic diseases (thyroid gland disorders and adrenal gland disorders) in old age and about specialities of geriatric nursing care;
to improve knowledge about tumor problems and pain in old age and about specialities of geriatric nursing care;
to improve knowledge about specialities of infection diseases in old age and about specialities of geriatric nursing care;
to be able to apply the gained knowledge to nursing processes with geriatric patients – nursing anamnesis, nursing diagnostics, planning of nursing care, nursing intervention and analysis of the effect of the provided care;
to orientate oneself in nursing documentation (used in geriatric treatment);
to be able to apply the gained knowledge to solving particular problems of nursing care of geriatric patients (model situations). - Syllabus
- These subjects will be covered in lectures:
- Nursing problems of geriatric patients with digestive system disorders.
- Nursing problems of geriatric patients with urogenital systém disorders.
- Nursing problems of geriatric patients with skeletal and muscular systém disorders.
- Nursing problems of geriatric patients with nervous system disorders (cerebral ictus).
- Nursing problems of geriatric patients with nervous system disorders (Parkinsons disease, Alzheimers disease).
- Nursing problems of geriatric patients with metabolic disorders (Diabetes mellitus).
- Nursing problems of geriatric patients with metabolic disorders (thyroid gland disorders and adrenal gland disorders).
- Nursing problems of tumors and pain in old age.
- Nursing problems of infection diseases in old age.
- These subjects will be covered in seminars:
- Comparison and evaluation of nursing documentation used in geriatric nursing care. Final summary of courses Nursing in Geriatrics I and Nursing in Geriatrics II.
- Within individual students work it is neccessary to study following subjects:
- Nursing problems of immobilization syndrome.
- Within individual students work it is neccessary to fulfill the following tasks:
- Preparation for seminars – processing of nursing documentation used in geriatric acute and subsequent nursing care (comparison of nursing documentation from facilities involved in nursing care of seniors).
