- Course objectives
- Aim is intensifying anatomical knowledges of the head and neck with consideration to their clinical use in dental profession. At the end of the course students should be able to:
- apply the correct anatomical nomenclature during the study of head and neck anatomy
- locate and identify the regions and associated surface landmarks of the head and neck on a patient
- integrate the knowledge of the head and neck anatomy into the clinical practice of patient examination and dental radiology
- discuss the clinical applications of the study of the head and neck anatomy by dental professionals
- discuss normal anatomical variation and how it applies to different structures of the head and neck - Syllabus
- 1. Functional composition of the skull. Fractures of the skull. Grammars of craniometry and their practical use in dentistry.
- 2. X-ray of the head.
- 3. Temporomandibular joint.
- 4. Muscles of the head and neck. Repetition: arterial blood supply and venous drainage of the head and neck. Nerves to the oral cavity and associated structures.
- 5.Overview of anatomical considerations for local anesthesia
- 6. Spread of dental infection.
