Course objectives
After finishing this exercise a student will be able to apply knowledge of basic geometrical and optician laws to practice. The student applies general laws on eye as multi-layer optical system, which can be influenced by various refractive errors, which is for example myopia, hypermetropia, presbyopia, astigmatism, anisometropia, aniseikonia, aphakia. For particular refractive errors is discussed here various types of spectacle correction lenses including suggestion of their technical parameters.
Syllabus
  • Accommodation. Measurement of accommodation, Duane graph, optical diagram of the accommodation process - examples.
  • Analysis of the accommodation process. Correction of myopia and hypermetropia for near vision - examples.
  • Analysis of the accommodation process. Correction of myopia and hypermetropia for near vision - examples.
  • Spectacle lenses. Bi, plan, periscopic lenses, menisci - examples.
  • Spherical best-form spectacle lenses. The Petzval surface, The Petzval-Coddington condition, tangential and sagittal bundle of rays.
  • Astigmatism of a thin lens. The Tscherning ellipse, the main points of the method of the calculation of spherical best-form lenses.
  • Realization possibilities of spherical best-form spectacle lenses.
  • Aspheric spectacle lenses. Correction of aberration by an aspheric surface.
  • Bifocal spectacle lenses. Conditions for the image-jump removal on the interface of the lens portions.
  • Cut bifocal spectacle lenses. Calculation of the basic parameters, prismatic effect.
  • Trifocal spectacle lenses. The main working point, accommodation intervals.
  • Sealed bifocal spectacle lenses. The proposal of the calculation of the radii of curvature, check of apical refraction by a tabelar calculation of paraxial ray.
  • Multifocal spectacle lenses. Design, width of the central band, hard and soft type of the lens. Lenticular spectacle lenses. Prismatic glasses.
  • Eye astigmatism. Etiology of astigmatism, classification of astigmatism, correction of eye astigmatism.
  • Cylindrical and toric spectacle lenses. Rules for the recalculation of astigmatic combinations - examples.Exercises are immediately linked to the lectures.
