- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to describe and explain terms related to common laboratory work, name laboratory equipment and define its functions, describe individual steps of laboratory procedures, apply professional language in communication with doctors and colleagues, interpret laboratory reports; use grammatical structures typical of medical language.
- Syllabus
- MEDICAL ENGLISH. Syllabus.
- 1st session: UNIT 1: Spectrophotometer 1 + UNIT 2: Spectrophotometer 2. Reading and translation of text, vocabulary, exercises.
- 2nd session: UNIT 3: Routine chemistry analysers + UNIT 4: Electrophoresis. Reading and translation of text, vocabulary, exercises.
- 3rd session: UNIT 5: Osmometry + UNIT 6: Chromatography. Reading and translation of text, vocabulary, exercises.
- 4th session: UNIT 7: Atomic absorption spectrometry + UNIT 8: Acid base and blood gas analyser. Reading and translation of text, vocabulary, exercises.
- 5th session: Credit test, granting of course-unit credits.

- Assessment methods
- The course takes the form of seminars. Attendance is compulsory. Two absences are tolerated provided a letter of excuse is handed in at the Department of Studies. It is highly recommended to make up for the absence in the same week. Assessment is based on the results of the credit test and attendance. Students get two credits for successful completion of the course.

Information on completion of the course: Studenti se státní jazykovou zkouškou, příp. jejím ekvivalentem (TOEFL, FCE apod.) mohou vykonat zkoušku kdykoliv během semestru.

The course is taught annually.
