- Course objectives
- The main objectives are to inform student on the main periods and tendencies of the history of medicine and to contribute to understanding of basic values of health care and health services system. Student will be able to evaluate importance of the history of medicine.
- Syllabus
- 1. Origin of medicine and health care. 2. Diseases and healing in a prehistoric society. 3. Christian tradition, Arabic, Chinese and Indian medicine, 4. European medicine in the Middle Ages. 5. Medicine in the Renaissance. 6. Medicine during the Enlightenment. 7. Development of the scientific medicine in the nineteenths century. 8. Medical care in the nineteenths century. 9. The advancement and limits of medicine in the twentieths century. 10. The past, the present, and the future of medicine and health care. 11. Personalities and basic data of the development of the Czech medicine and health care system. 12. The concise history of the Masaryk University, Medical faculty, and the teaching hospital.
