- Course objectives
- The course comprises basic otorhinolaryngology knowledge, introduces the students to the organization of out patient room, basic ENT evaluation and surgery. The problems of surgery of ear (stapes surgery etc.), oncology and endoscopic surgery are also included.
- Syllabus
- 1st day (Monday) The hearing and balance system, applied anatomy and physiology,methods of investigation, inspection, palpation, otoscopy - practical training. The basic pathological finding on the ear drum I. - slides, demonstrations of patients. Video - function of hearing system, OAE.. Radiography of the temporal bone (Schueller's view, Stenvers' view, CT), surgical treatment of acute and chronic Otitis Media, reconstructiv surgery. Practic course and operating theatre. Stapedectomy - videodemonstration. Video: FESS Dia: Ear II, Nose Nose and paranasal sinuses, applied anatomy and physiology, external inspection and palpation, anterior rhinoscopy - practical course, radiology of the sinuses, classical radical treatment and functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) - videodemonstration. Patologic findings - slides. 5th day (Friday) Nasopharynx and oropharynx - applied anatomy and physiology, posterior rhinoscopy - practical training, investigation of the oral cavity and salivary glands, Waldayer's lymphoepithelial ring, functional assessment of the Eustachian tube. Patologic findings - slides. The correction of saddle nose - videodemonstration Hypopharynx and Larynx - applied anatomy and physiology, methods of investigation - indirect laryngoscopy and hypopharyngoscopy - practical training, functional disorders of the larynx. Dyspnoe, tracheotomy - film. 6th day (Monday) Cervical lymphatic system - applied anatomy and physiology, methods of investigation - practical training. Differential diagnosis of tumors of neck. Head and neck cancer - strategy of treatment. Video - Prof. Dr. O. Kleinsasser : Restoration of the voce by endolaryngeal surgery. Nodi cervicales superficiales Nodi lymphatici cervicales profundi Lymphatic chain at n. accesorius Lymphatic chain along vasa transversa colli Special groups of lymphnodes Differential diagnosis of tumors of the neck Inflammatory Cervical Lymphadenopathy Tumors Congenital Anomalies The methods of surgical treatment of lymph node metastases Head and neck cancer - strategy of treatment. Subtotal laryngectomy with interarytenoid vocal shunt (Kleinsasser , 11,30 min)- videodemonstration G. Weinstein: Supracricoid laryngectomy Endoscopy (Microlaryngoscopy and bronchoscopy) - in Otolaryngology, demonstration of endoscopic instrumentarium. Kleinsasser: Restoration of the voice by endolaryngeal surgery. N:S.Jones: Paediatric Microlaryngoscopy and bronchoscopy (14min) 8th day (Wednesday) Emergency and first aid procedures : bleeding, dyspnoe, foreign bodies, corrosions, sudden hearing loss, acute vertigo. Film: tracheotomy.Round table discussion
