Course objectives
At the end of the course students will know what the principles of drug prescription are and what information is available in the Pharmacopoea, and how to make calculations of basic pharmacological parameters. They be able to recognize main drug classes and pharmacological profiles of representative drugs from groups of drugs selected in the curriculum.

  • PHARMACOLOGY PRACTICAL COURSES

  • Lessons: 1st - 10th week - Monday 13.30- 14.45 (1,5 hr), Dpt. of Pharmacology, UKB A19

  • 1st lesson (21.9.):Drug prescriptions: Elements of the drug prescription. Prescription of individualy prepared and ready made preparations. Legislation of drug prescription.Prescription of narcotic and psychotropic agents.
  • 2nd lesson (28.9.): Public holiday.
  • 3rd lesson (5.10.): Drug administration routes. Drug dosage forms.
  • 4th lesson (12.10.): Pharmacology of peripheral nervous system I. Terminology, PNS neurotransmission, adrenergic and cholinergic receptors, agonists a antagonists. Parasympathotropic drugs.
  • 5th lesson (19.10.): Pharmacology of peripheral nervous system II. Sympathotropic drugs.
  • 6th lesson (26.10.): General anesthetics, myorelaxants.
  • 7th lesson (2.11.): Histamin and antihistamines. Antiasthmatics.
  • 8th lesson (9.11.): Antitussives, expectorants.
  • 9th lesson (16.11): GIT active drugs> Antacids, antiemetics, andiarrhoics, laxatives, spasmolytics, prokinetics.
  • 10th lesson (23.11.): Credit test. Case reports.

Teaching methods
In practicals students are provided with a pharmacology teacher presentation with presentations of video-programmes related to the topic stated in curriculum followed by discussion, including specific reports prepared as homework and presented by students. There are also presented video-programmes to demonstrate manufacturing of drug dosage forms, some of them will be manually prepared by students.
Assessment methods
During the studying the student has to prove active knowledge of pharmacology acquired to get the credit. The student has to pass the final written exam - multiple-choice test (20 questions, min. 12 pts, 1 pt for each correctly answered question.
