Course objectives
Lessons should introduce students with the main principles of interpersonal communication in intensive care nursing. Main objectives can be summarized as follows and at the end of this course student should be able to: - to define requierements on effective social interaction to patients in intensive care and their relatives; to dentify and explain main principals of communication, communication techniques, alternative communication skills and communication with family members;to understand specific requirements of the social interaction in intensive care; to explain determiners of the social interaction to patients at intensive; to identify risc factors of the maladaptation process by patients in intensive care and at intensive care unit (seriously ill people) in nursing; to create a plan for effective social interaction to patients with serious problems in intensive care and their relatives; to practically demonstrate the using of effectiveness technigues of the social interaction to them; to explain terminology concerning ageistic attitudes to the people who needs intensive care and stereotypical behaviour;to solve the problematic situation in social interaction to persons trated in intensive care in model situation and casuistry.
Syllabus
  • Lessons explain the main principals of communication, communication techniques, alternative communication skills, communication with family members. Gives information about crisis situations in medical field. Teaching involves lectures and class exercisses. Students solve casuistics and find communication sollutions. At the end of the course students should be able use specific communication techniques with acute ill patients and their relatives in the environment of acute and intensive care.

Teaching methods
lecture class exercise - group discussion - model situation and problem solving
Assessment methods
oral form - group discussion. Credit is given according to rules that are set out on the lecture. What is needed is a 100% participation in seminars, activity to seminary. Group discussion with the verification of the knowledge acquired.
