Course objectives
The student will learn to use the theoretical knowledge of the field of orthoptics and pleoptics practically in the orthoptics department. Each student works under the supervision of a orthoptist supervised by strabologist. The aim of the practice is to gain autonomy in performing orthoptic-pleoptic exercises, which are part of the treatment of amblyopia and strabismus in children. The practice is also an internship on the strabological ambulance and in the surgery room in the surgery of strabismus.
Learning outcomes
The student will learn to use the theoretical knowledge of the field of orthoptics and pleoptics practically in the orthoptics department.

  • History of the treatment of strabismus
  • Anamnesis
  • Examination of visual acuity and refraction
  • Examination of the position of the eyes and their motility
  • Range measurement of squinting deviation
  • Examination of SBV
  • Examination of retinal correspondence
  • Heterophorias (division, examination, treatment)
  • Treatment of concomitant strabismus (correction of refractive errors, pleoptics, surgical treatment, orthoptics)
  • Paralytic strabismus (division, examination, treatment)
  • Secondary strabismus, retinopathy of prematurity
  • Prisms in orthoptics
  • Nystagmus
  • Nurse's work at an orthoptic ambulatory
  • Detection and dispensarisation of strabism
