Course objectives
Students will be able to learn about the origin, nature, and potential of pain assessment as the fifth essential function of life. They will master the basic procedures of non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatment of acute and chronic pain including the evaluation of the effect of the treatment and its documentation
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to: - Define individual types of pain - Evaluate the acute and chronic pain of the patient - describe basic pharmacological and non-pharmacological alternatives to pain management
Syllabus
  • pain, pain theory, the nature of pain - assessment of pain in intensive care patients, pain indicators, VAS, pain map, differential diagnostic methods of pain - acute pain - postoperative analgesia. PCA, patient education - chronic pain - patient with oncological pain - non-pharmacological methods of pain management - Possibilities of drug therapy of pain I - Possibilities of Drug Therapy II, combinations of drugs, undesirable effects invasive techniques for the treatment of pain - Alternative pain management techniques - pain in the extreme age groups - back pain - communication and psychological approach to the patient with pain - organization of pain management in the Czech Republic, types of outpatient pain
