Course objectives
The aim is a detailed acquaintance with the field of special education of visually impaired with a focus on the support of individuals with visual impairments in order to reduce the impact of this disability on the quality of life. The course expands knowledge about the specific needs of individuals with visual impairment in different age periods and the possibilities of their fulfillment in special educational concepts of counseling and intervention.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to: - identify and summarize important areas of the influence of visual impairment on the quality of human life according to age periods; - identify and describe current options for counseling and intervention with a focus on age periods; - describe the factors that influence the choice of a special aid for coping with independent life; - apply in practice the basic recommendations for accompanying a person with visual impairment and recommendations for mobility of a person with severe visual impairment;
Syllabus
  • 1. The circle of visually impaired people. The influence of visual impairment on the individual's personality (mental processes, communication) and the impact on quality of life - acquired / congenital disability. 2. The influence of visual impairment on the psychomotor development of a child with severe visual impairment. Possibilities of special intervention and support. 3. Early intervention - theoretical basis of early intervention and its importance for supporting the child's development and for supporting the family. Early care for visually impaired children and their families in the Czech Republic - services offered, the specifics of working with a child. 4. Special pedagogical counseling for visually impaired children in preschool and school age. Specifics of educational needs and measures depending on age and degree of disability. 5. Special aids for the visually impaired and work with them with a view to improving the quality of life of these people. 6. Communication of visually impaired people - teaching Braille and its notation. Access to information. 7. Counseling for the visually impaired - providers of social services and their offer with regard to the objectives of the services provided and the age of the client. 8. Family of a child with visual impairment and multiple disability. Special pedagogue and his counseling activities in families. 9. Multiple disability - counseling and intervention for people with multiple disabilities with the presence of visual impairment. Deafblindness. 10. Mobility of visually impaired people - specifics, advice and aids. 11. Barriers around us, removing barriers and creating an accessible environment.
