- explain elementary processes taking place in cells (gene expression, inter- and intra-cellular communication, cell differentiation, cell division, cell death) and their purposes
- explain the relationship between malfunctioning of cellular processes and development of diseases
- explain how gene mutations and chromosome aberrations cause human diseases, and illustrate it with examples - Syllabus
- Introduction to Medical Biology
- Chemical nature of life – chemical components of cells, protein structure and function
- Architecture and function of eukaryotic cell I – structure and function of biomembranes, organelles
- Architecture and function of eukaryotic cell II – nucleus, cytoskeleton
- Genome organization - nucleic acids, chromosome structure, DNA replication
- Genome stability and instability – DNA damage, mutations, DNA repair and defects in DNA repair
