Course objectives
Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to acquire knowledge of clinical nutrition needed to provide specialized nutritional care in adults with cancer.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to work in a multidisciplinary team from the perspective of nutritional therapy. They will be able to use information about basic principles of nutrition and carcinogenesis interaction in patient education and cancer prevention. The student will know the anticancer treatment, its types according to the treatment method, the principles of nutritional care, undesirable effects of anticancer treatment and their influence, nutritional measures during or after the treatment of cancer diseases, the most common dietary adjustments in anticancer treatment. The student is able to create individual nutritional recommendations and educational materials for cancer patients.vý
Syllabus
  • Dietary measures during or after cancer treatment. Dietary adjustments in the treatment of cancer. Risks of infection and diet in neutropenia. Methods of monitoring and evaluation of patients' condition in terms of the possibility of complications and sudden changes during hospitalization and outpatient care. Practical problems of nutritional support in cancer. Sipping, case reports of patients. Introduction and care of PEG. Nutrition via PEG in practice. Case reports of nutritional support via PEG. Nutritional support: tube nutrition, parenteral nutrition. Case reports of patients.
