Course objectives
The course is suplementary to the course Biochemistry -lecture BPBC011p. In the course selected topics from biochemistry are discussed and are extended by special topics needed for studied program.
Learning outcomes
Student is able to: -calculate and propose preparation of the solution, understand the meaning of basic concepts characterizing the composition and properties of body fluids (electrolytes, osmolality, pH etc.). -explain the principles of digestion and metabolism of essential nutrients. -describe the principles of biological material sampling and processing. -understand the importance of basic biochemical examinations and the principles of their interpretation, including the biochemical examinations during pregnancy and newborn and amniotic fluid. -apply and interpret tests to determine ovulation and pregnancy. -understand the principle of oral glucose tolerance test. -describe basic physical and chemical properties of blood, group system AB0, Rh system, their clinical significance. He is acquainted with the basic principles of urine collection and is familiar with the orientation examination of urine using diagnostic bands. He is familiar with the use of glucometers.
