Course objectives
The main aims of the course involve:
- understanding of main pharmacological mechanisms of drug actions leading to therapeutic, adverse and toxic effects of drugs and eventually their combinations;
- knowledge of pharmacological profiles of representative drugs from groups of drugs selected in the curriculum

Problematics of eye pharmacology is part of a separate subject.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will able:
- to understand main pharmacological mechanisms of drug actions leading to therapeutic, adverse and toxic effects of drugs and eventually their combinations;
- to recognize main drug classes and pharmacological profiles of representative drugs from groups of drugs selected in the curriculum.

  • BOFA031p - Bases of Pharmacology - lectures

    OPTICS AND OPTOMETRY, ORTHOPTICS

    Autumn semester 2023

  • 1st lecture: Terminology in Pharmacology. Drug classification. General pharmacological principles. Drug mechanisms of action. Introduction to pharmacokinetics.
  • 2nd lecture: Factors responsible for variation in drug response. Adverse drug effects. Drug interactions. Drug research and development of new therapeutics. Evaluations of clinical trials on pharmaceuticals.
  • 3rd lecture: Pharmacology of the autonomic nervous system - receptors of the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems and possibilities of the pharmacological intervention.
  • 4th lecture: Anaesthetics. Peripheral muscle relaxants.

Teaching methods
Students are provided with the pharmacology teacher presentation of the topic according to the curriculum.
Assessment methods
During the studying the student has to prove active knowledge of pharmacology acquired. The final multiple-choice test consists of 20 questions, 60% of correct answers is needed to pass. There is one correct answer in each question.

Témata, ze kterých budou tvořeny otázky závěrečného písemného multi-výběrového testu, odpovídají probraným tématům dle sylabu přednášek a cvičení. Znalost těchto témat bude požadována v rozsahu povinné literatury (Farmakologie pro studenty bakalářských oborů na LF MU a Farmakologie pro studenty zdravotnických oborů) a studijních materiálů poskytnutých učitelem. Studenti si doplní tyto zdroje o další poznámky během výkladu učitele.
