- Course objectives
- The aim of the practice is to enable students to contact with the routine environment of medical laboratories. To familiarize yourself with the practical implementation of the quality management system in everyday laboratory activities (SOP-analytical, technical, logistic, directive, work instructions), internal and external quality control and coordination of all members of the working team (health technician, bioanalyst, physician).
- Learning outcomes
- The completion of professional experience will complement the knowledge gained from the theoretical and practical form of subjects in the sense of linking analytical, instrumental, technical and clinical knowledge and information to a complex output for a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure for the benefit of the patient.
- Syllabus
- Pathology:
- Revenue office operation, administration.
- Operation of the intake laboratory for biopsy, peroperative biopsy.
- Tissue processors, blocking, watering the tissues into solid media.
- standard and special histopathological methods
- Nephropic procurement
- Immunochemical and histochemical methods
- Methods of molecular pathology
- Transfusion medicine:
- Organization and management of blood establishment ; Legislature, Quality system for blood establishment ; Quality management and process control; Data processing systems, Record keeping; Selection of donors; Blood collection, principles of component preparation; Blood components, plasma for fractionation, blood derivates; Transfusion practices; Blood group serology; Screening for infection markers; Autologous predeposit transfusion; Pre-transfusion measures; Transfusion; Haemovigilance; HLA system, medical aspects of HLA antigens and antibodies; Solid organs transplant strategy and bone marrow donors registry;
- clinical imunology:
- Good laboratory praxis – principles of quality assurance and quality control in the clinical immunology laboratory. National and international reference preparations.
- Problems of establishing of „normal or reference ranges“.
- Laboratory data logging.

- KDetaremination of protein concentration by turbidimetry and nephelometry

- Determination of complement and phagocytosis
- phenotyping of cells by flow cytometry
- Lymphocyte function tests
- Clinical Microbiology:
- 1. Admission of material, its distribution into individual laboratories; expedition of results to individual clients
- 2. Preparing culture media for bacteriological cultivation
- 3. Bacteriology I (processing of individual specimens: throat/nasal swab, sputum, urine, pus, blood culture and other specimens)
- 4. Bacteriology II (identification methods in bacteriology, antibiotic susceptibility testing methods – diffusion disc test, microdillution test)
- 5. Gastrointestinal specimens processing and evaluation, basics of parasitology of gastrointetinal tract
- 6. Laboratory of STI (processing of various specimens for bacteriology, mycology and diagnostics of Trichomonas, including dg. of gonorrhoea)
- 7. Serology: clasical serological methods, modern serological methods
- 8. Virology: clasical and modern methods used in serological virology, direct diagnostics of viruses; basics of PCR in microbiology
