Course objectives

- At the end of the block training, the student is oriented on the current epidemiological situation and knows the basic epidemiological characteristics of important infectious diseases.

- The student knows and can implement adequate anti-epidemic measures for specific types of infections (alimentary, respiratory, parenterally transmitted and contact transmission).

- The student knows the importance of vaccination in the prevention of infectious diseases.

- The student knows and can apply specific hygiene precautions when providing intensive care.
Learning outcomes

- Based on the current epidemiological situation, the student is able to design and implement adequate and effective anti-epidemic measures in the provision of intensive health care.

- The student is able to explain the importance of vaccination for the protection of public health and the individual, knows the immunization programme in the Czech Republic and knows the procedures of good practice in the administration of vaccines.

- The student is able to justify and implement appropriate preventive measures to prevent the transmission of infections in the workplace.

  • - Epidemic process; etiology and risk factors for the spread of diseases.
  • - Current epidemiological situation.
  • - Epidemiological characteristics of important infectious diseases.
  • - Anti-epidemic measures.
  • - Active and passive immunisation.
  • - Surveillance of nosocomial infections (NI).
  • - Etiology, sources, risk factors of hospital-acquired infections.
  • - Characteristics of the most important hospital infections in intensive care and their prevention.
  • - Infection prevention and control programme.
